My Beloved Bureau | Upcycle

I'd like to introduce you all to the second love of my life that is my Beloved Bureau. Bureaus are predominantly antique pieces of furniture used for sitting and writing loads of important stuff in, preferably with a quill. It turns out that the Swedish Gods of budget furniture have also produced the Hemnes Bureau for for a not so barganious £200 *insert shocked face emoji*

Don't worry though, I didn't fork out £200 for this beauty, nope, I got this for a whopping £20 on the local Facebook selling site kerr-ching! It came in perfect condition, the only downside was that it was such a dark shade and not remotely in-keeping with the white / cream dream theme I want going down in the bedroom. This mean that I had to embark on my first ever DIY project and I'm pretty much proud as punch of the results.

I sanded the wood down and completely ruined the glossy dark brown finish and probably p*ssed off the neighbours with the scratching sound. I then a applied a primer which, is dead important like when you put it on your face, you get me?

I then waited two weeks until payday and finally bought the shade of paint I wanted (French Chiffon if you're wondering) I gave it two coats and then walked in an out of the room for a few hours basking at my amazing work and the masterpiece that I've created. In all seriousness, I am dead proud of myself, I've wanted a bureau for ages. I store all my makeup and beauty products inside and use it as a vanity / desk to write my blog posts and put my slap on.

I think it looks much better in French Chiffon and taking the cost of paint and tools into consideration, I still managed to only spend just under £50 on a £200 piece of furniture and it's given me a reason to keep my Facebook account...for now.

  3. I love this! What a bargain! I really want a good desk that I can't make too much of a mess of, so the hiding cupboard bit would be perfect for me. Gonna have to keep an eye out for similar things x
