Younique Moodstruck Fiber Lash Mascara

One of the amazing gifts that I received from my cousin for Christmas was the Younique Moodstruck Fiber Lash Mascara - I'd seen this before when my other cousin had used it and I was mesmerized by the entire process, her lashes literally grew before my eyes (they didn't grow, grow - the product increased their size). Being a complete newbie to Younique meant that I was intrigued to try it. I have shoddy lashes, not only are they blonde but they're short and grow in weird angles that make applying mascara a difficult task as taming them only makes them clump into a horrible little group.

So how does it work?

The Fibre Lash Mascara comes with a Transplanting Gel and the Fibers (both in separate tubes) to be applied one after the other - with the transplanting gel first. The gel is said to contain vitamins that hold and attract moisture and work as anti-oxidants. The gel works as an adhesive for the Fibers and therefore needs to be applied liberally to provide a strong base for the fibers to stick to. For a more dramatic look, Younique advise applying regular mascara before to gel - I found that this worked best for me as it gave me the chance to tame my lashes before going all out with the gel. As we all know, applying a few layers of lots of product will always result in some clumps meaning that this method requires a patience, a steady hand and attention to detail (guess why I don't use this on a Monday morning).

After a good amount of base has been applied with the gel, the fibers are applied to the lashes - this needs to be done in quick succession whilst the gel is still wet. The fibres are small pieces of nylon that are easy to manipulate and dry quickly to the gel, they also allegedly contain nutrients to condition and fortify hair and skin.

Does it work well?

As mentioned above, patience is definitely a requirement with this, ensuring my lashes stay clump free whilst being quick enough to apply to the fibers to wet gel can become a stressful situation but thats just because I'm crap at stuff like this. The overall finish really impresses me, when products claim to increase lash length by 50% I usually scoff and do an old school clueless "as if" but in this instance, I found it almost true (granted, 50% might be a slight exaggeration) and for a more dramatic false lash look an additional layer of both products can be applied. This makes it ideal for day and night use. The only downside I've found to it is that it makes lashes feel heavy by the end of the day - as with falsies, it's certainly noticeable that there's something on my lashes which can, when worn for a long time, slightly irritate my eyes.

Removal

Reasonably easy to remove and nothing like the first batch of They're Real mascaras that I found impossible to get off. I use Garnier Micellar water (with oil) to gently remove my make-up and it works a treat on mascara too. As with all full-coverage / look / effect products, they need a little more 'elbow grease' to thoroughly remove and with the layer of fibres and gel this can create a crumble effect but I have found, admittedly to my surprise that my lashes haven't suffered from being smothered in so much product - I wouldn't say that they're in better quality than they previously were but they're certainly no worse.

Final thoughts

It's definitely a product that I would by again as I mentioned earlier, being a stranger to Younique made me completely naive to how to actually get your hands on products. From what I can gather, it works a lot like Avon with various reps selling Youique products however, it is possible to buy products straight from the site. The Moodstruck Fiber Lash Mascara set is sold for £23 which, is reasonable when the results are compared to high end mascaras that I've used such as Dior and Benefit. This is definitely something that I will consider re-purchasing (unless something catches my eye between now and then).

  1. Great post loved your review! Noticed this is a older formula and they've improved their mascara so much more since this one! It's definitely a great product and it's in-between normal mascara and false eyelashes! x

  7. I love fiber mascaras and primers - they work so so well but it's so true that you need a lot of patience otherwise it can look a tad silly! x

    1. Same! I actually love the younique fibre mascara...I've been using it for a couple of years. It really gives my lashes length, it's easy to put on and take off, and it's more affordable than eyelash extensions or latisse.
