Review | Boohoo Cosmetics High Pigment Eye Shadow Palettes

Yeah, you read that right - BOOHOO DO COSMETICS  I think I noticed some the of the collection on their Instastories last week and couldn't resist buying a couple of bits to see how they shape up. Due to my diverse collection of eye shadow palettes I think I'm better at working out what is a bargain and what is a heap of 💩 in comparison to other products. As with all Boohoo products, the cosmetics collection is more than affordable which made me more intrigued to check it out in person.

What's in the collection then mate?

Oh you're in for a treat here, the collection compromises of two, three shade vinyl lipgloss sets, one in a red / pink toned  mixture of shades and the other in a nude combination, there's also a purple matte lip and liner set (I would've bought one of these if there were some more shades because I love a good lip kit test). There are seven face palettes ranging from £3-£6 including blush and highlight palettes as well as contour sets and some mixed eye and face palettes. I was most impressed about the variety of eye shadow palettes, Boohoo seem to have taken inspiration from the majority of cult palettes out their and created their own versions. I naturally went for the two high pigment palettes because I am all about that high pigment life.

Boohoo 12 Eyeshadow High Pigment

For a measly £3 I was really intrigued to see how this palette matched my high standards. Boohoo don't provide much detail with their cosmetics, the only colour option when selecting this palette was 'black' and there was no description of the tones / shades provided in the product description. In addition to this, there aren't names or even numbers for each shade - this isn't something that bothers me too much as I can easily make some names up 😉 if I need to. The 12 High Pigment palette is a mixture of warm toned nude and the oh so trendy burnt orange and deep pink shades with a slight shimmer.

I was surprised at quite how pigmented the shades actually were in comparison to my usual high pigment shades from the likes of UD and Huda - each swatch was one layer and the shimmer shades specifically glided on like a breeze and the shimmery pigment was visibly running throughout the pan rather than just the top layer (unlike some other bargain palettes that I've tried before). I found that the slighly more matte and cooler shades were chalkier in comparison and required a little more pressure to get a decent swatch.

The 12 shade palette was the first I tried, creating a simple smoky look for work, again I found that the lighter nude shades were harder to blend due to their chalk-like texture than their warm shimmery pals further down the line. They weren't impossible to work with and overall I think for just £3 you definitely get more than your money's worth. I also really appreciate how sleek the palette looks, there is no way that you'd think it was so cheap  - the packaging is on par with the likes of Tarte when it comes to quality and the subtle gold detailing gives it a deceivingly luxe vibe.

Boohoo 35 Eyeshadow High Pigment

£6 for 35 shades is something that you can't really say No to. I won't lie, I was slightly disappointed with how small the pans were and definitely anticipated a slightly larger palette but for £6 I'm going to complain too much - as I keep stressing, when you pay for budget beauty you can't kick the toys out of the pram when they're not exact matches of higher end products, there has to be a reflection of the price difference somewhere.

As with the 12 shade palette there isn't a product description or shade names on this either so I literally bought it on a whim because it was cheap and pretty. This palette is a little bit of everything ranging from warm shimmer shades to slightly more matte cool tone shades, I think there's enough to almost suit everyone. My favourites have to be the golden shades, I can't get enough of gold eye looks lately whether it's adding a complete sparkle to a lid or giving a liner a cheeky glimmer, I want it. Again, some shades have that chalky consistency that make them a little harder to blend but overall I think the palette is worth the price.

Application and Durability

As I mentioned above some of the shades are slightly harder to blend but with a decent brush and a bit of patience you soon get there. The shimmer shades are a breeze to work with, there's little fall-out and I'd say they're definitely high pigmented.

I wore my eye makeup for around 9 hours in total and was pleased wit how well the shades faired, the heating is pretty much on all day in our office which can result in itchy and sweaty eye lids but these shades didn't do too badly, I noticed that by the end of the day there was a slight build up of product in my creases but that was about it and not really worth writing home about considering I'd had 9 hours of wear. I mean if you're expecting more than that you better start praying for some kinda miracle.

Based on my experience with these two palettes, I'm excited to see what Boohoo release next, I'm enjoying seeing these brands delve into the land of beauty and comparing the results. I definitely want to try a lip kit and highlighter at some point so keep your peepers peeped, in the meantime, keep scrolling for 35 glorious swatches. ✌🏼

  9. I cannot believe that Boohoo now do makeup! I always find (like you did) that the darker shades in cheaper palettes work nicely but the light shades are chalky! I'm quite impressed though for the price! xx

  11. I don't know why I'm so shocked because it was an obvious branch for them to take and yet I'm here like "Boohoo do make-up!!!". I like that they have gone for wearable neutrals and that the prices are super affordable x

  12. I often find the same with cheaper brands - the shimmers have good payoff and the mattes can be a bit chalky, but you can't moan too much when they're such good value! Glad to see that overall you liked these x
