It's been a long and hard four months since our last appointment and we finally have some answers. Following on from the first appointment, I had the various blood tests need to create a full hormone profile of my cycle and awaited the results. I've previously mentioned what a mind f*ck infertility is and the best outcome for this appointment would be that I don't ovulate and the worst case, that I do ovulate and more investigative work would need to be undertaken which, would be bordering on unexplained infertility - the dead scary stuff.
The second appointment ๐๐ผ
This appointment involved another long wait in the busy pregnancy filled waiting room but having a comedic genius like Luke around who immediately lightened the mood by telling the receptionist that 'we've come to pick up our baby' made it just about bearable. After our stint in purgatory we were ushered into the consultation room with our specialist who is basically an angel ๐ and proceeded to go through my blood results.
I don't ovulate ๐๐ผ
Is pretty much the key bit of information we got here and the best news we could have hoped for. I didn't get the specifics but the most obvious reason as to why there is no bun in my oven seems to be due to the definitive fact that I'm not ovulating and my prescription for Clomid was written up before the appointment began. This was the exact result that we have been hoping and fingers crossed, the medication will work ๐๐ผ and our next appointment at that place won't be such a sombre occasion.
What is Clomid ๐
Clomid (Clomefine) or the Ovary Arse Kicker as I like to call it is an oestrogen-like hormone that acts on the hypothalamus pituitary gland to increase the levels of FSH and LH which are some things, that do some stuff to make ovaries release eggs in a cycle ๐. Clomid is taken from the 2nd to the 6th day of a period and the dosage can be increased dependant on results provided by a blood test taken on the 21st day of a cycle. Clomid is taken orally ๐ and has a really high success rate which makes me dead excited to start using it. Around 80% of women who have used Clomid have fallen pregnant within 6 cycles and a large majority of women on those dreaded pregnancy forums that I get my Mum to read for me, have all stated that the second cycle of Clomid (when the dosage has been doubled) have been the most successful for them and many have also sung the praises of the first cycle, not to mention the fair few that have had multiple pregnancies since taking it which takes me nicely on to side effects.
The main side effect seems to be that Clomid makes women hormonal, something that Luke is more than accustomed to so shouldn't be an issue, along with this, theres weight gain, nausea, breast tenderness and spotting - all of which I'm more prepared to suffer if it helps. My Mum also found the useful tip of taking Clomid during the evening to sleep off the rougher time with the side effects.
The Clomid Diaries ๐
For each round of Clomid that I have to take, I'm going to log the side effects and journey so keep your eyes peeled ๐ because we're 4 days and counting...providing I'm not late which I probably will be because that is my life ๐๐ผ Lolz.
So pleased for you! We had to wait 3 years before I was prescribed clomid as the doctors messed us around so much but it worked on the first round! I hope it'll do the same for you! Looking forward to reading your next post!
