Out & About: Anglesey Outdoors Eco Lodge Glamping

3 June 2017

Last week's mini break to Wales has probably been one of my best kept secrets - my little old lady of a mother turned the big 50 this year and as part of her birthday surprise we dragged her all the way over to Holyhead to photograph some sea birds (especially Puffins) and have a nice break away. I wanted to stay somewhere as close to the coast as possible that was also affordable. After a quick google search, Anglesey Outdoors popped up and I was relieved with their easy to navigate website that shows when bookings are available as well as clearly outlined prices.

I spotted the Eco Lodges straight away and was dead impressed with how Instagrammable they were and booked one there and then - aside from getting me bare likes on IG (I'm not even joking) Th Eco Lodge was perfect for me, the old lady and Luke as it had all the necessities to make our stay comfortable without having to fart around with a tent. The Lodge sleeps up to four people with a futon in one corner and a bunk bed with double bed on the bottom in a another corner (with bedding included).

In the centre of the lodge there is a  dining table, and kitchen area complete with two ring hobs, a microwave, a fridge with a freezer shelf and a cupboard packed with pots, pans, plates and glasses. Rather than have to use the commercial showering facilities at the main centre, the lodge has an en suit complete with a shower and other standard bathroom crap (and loo roll which was a blessing because we totally forgot to bring any).

The piece de resistance of the lodge for me was the underfloor heating - I am all about that life. I spent Tuesday morning skipping barefooted across a 24 degree wooden floor living my best life. Unfortunately I went a little overboard with the floor and Luke had to sit in the car too cool down but I am living for the day when "I'm going to turn the floor on" is part of my every day lingo.

Prices 💳

The Eco Lodge was a delight to stay in and I'm pretty certain I'll never sleep in a tent again. For two nights (during the half term break) the Eco Lodge cost £190.00 which I think is a bloody good price and definitely well worth it.

The Paddlers Return 🍴

Anglesey Outdoors done ticked all the boxes, as well as being slap bang in the middle of nowhere, there is an onsite bar and bistro that serves food daily from 6:30 through to 9:30 and unlike a lot of onsite cafes and restaurants that I've been to, the food doesn't cost all of your holiday spends. The Paddlers Return sits in the heart of the site and has an oldy-wordly atmospheric bar inside and a large outdoor eating area complete with chickens hopping on and off table to add to the rustic vibe. Being soft, I couldn't stomach eating meat with all the chickens about and settled for a Sweet Potato Curry and some chicken cuddles. Luke went for a burger and had no complaints although he did end up feeding half his chips to the chickens because they were so irresistible. In keeping with the transparency of Anglesey Outdoors, the full bistro menu can be viewed here with prices included.
